A couple who claim their vacation was ruined by the construction of a hotel are demanding a full refund.
Dawn Brett and her husband David, both 59, saved £5,100 last month for a two-week luxury vacation at the Hotel Riu Palace Antilas on the Caribbean island of Aruba.
They said they had previously stayed at a nearby hotel and “loved it” but this year’s visit was “horrible.”
Poolside footage shows a massive construction site looming over vacationers, with loud machinery noises clearly audible.
Tui, the company that booked the vacation, claimed to have warned the couple about the construction project, but said noise and disruptions would be “sporadic.”
A representative for Tui called the couple from Orpington, Kent, to confirm that they had received the letter.
mr dawn said:
“If they had shown us a photo and said that the noise continued from 7 am to 4 pm every day, we would not have left or changed hotels, but they would have given us that option. They didn’t help me.”

His parents said the vacation was filled with “constant banging, drilling and driving.”
Mr. Alba said: You can turn your head to hide, but you can’t close your ears.
“We couldn’t stand the noise. It was over the pool. There were no breaks.”
“We spend most of our vacations in the pool area. We have a beautiful beach, but I’m not a beach person. I don’t like sand.”
The couple considered cutting their vacation down to day seven and asked Tui’s representative if it was possible.
A representative offered to check us in for our return flight, but Dawn and David refused. If you go home a week early, you will be compensated. ”
The couple has spent two full weeks and is now requesting a refund.

I will not allow or accept what happened. I will never book again.
“Should I have taken it more seriously? No, I’m not one to seek feedback.
“I don’t belong to an age where Google comes first and foremost. I believe what they say. That’s why I booked Tui.”
Mr Tui said:
“We contacted Brett and other affected customers twice before leaving to let them know there was construction nearby.
I can confirm that Mrs. Brett has acknowledged receipt of these communications and has decided to proceed with her vacation reservations as scheduled.

We have been following the progress of the new hotel under construction near the Riu Palace Antilas.
Schedules and plans are not provided by the contractor, we understand that site activity has recently increased and become more pronounced, although not constant.
