Mainly minors among the 29 rescued from a slave ship off Pylos

All 29 people, mostly minors, who were rescued from a floating boat off Pylos are in good health.

The boat in which the 10 men, one woman and the 18 minors were on board, was in a difficult position, 84 n.m. southwest of Pylos. Late on Monday night, the Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center L.S. – EL.AKT., was informed about the existence of the foreigners.

The Norwegian-flagged research ship “OCEANIC SIRIUS”, after being informed by the Operations Center, collected the 29 foreigners and handed them over to the port in Koroni.

At the Kalamata port authority, it was found that among the adult men were two slave traders, aged 30 and 33, who were arrested.

Both of them are accused of illegal entry into the country, illegal trafficking of foreigners in violation of Law 3386/05 and Law 4251/2014 as they apply as well as article 306 of the Criminal Code. (Exposure of life at risk).

The remaining survivors are being monitored by medical personnel and will be taken to a safe location.
