CCTV shows the moment a brazen gang stole millions of pounds worth of jewelery from a Bronx store.
Surveillance video shows four masked robbers breaking into Rocco’s Jewelery, smashing cabinets with hammers and stealing valuables in broad daylight.
The attackers seized £1.65m (£2m) worth of goods from the store shortly after 2:30pm on Friday before fleeing, according to the store’s estimate, reported by the New York Daily News. .
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has filed a complaint to locate a criminal group that stole a large number of packages in just 45 seconds.
An employee of a jewelry store saw a man in a white shirt open the door for an accomplice.
They added that the grip on the other man’s pocket indicated he had a gun, but he never displayed it during the robbery.
Witnesses initially said they thought the loud noises were gunshots, with one man telling CBS 2, “They went in, boom, boom, boom, in and out.”
The robbery is similar to two other robberies in New York in May, and police believe the gang may have been involved in another 16 robberies.
The crimes date back to February 25 and occurred in the Bronx and Queens districts.
Police have offered a reward of £2,900 ($3,500) for information leading to an arrest in connection with the theft.
All of the suspects are described as slim black men in their 20s.
“After entering the store, three individuals used hammers to open the display case and remove a large quantity of fine diamond jewelry,” the NYPD said in a statement.
“The jewelry was placed in bags carried by people who fled the scene on foot and headed south on Webster Avenue.”
No injuries have been reported.
