Last week, former chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, in an interview, said that the operation of Nord Stream 2 would solve the problems of supplying Germany and Europe with natural gas.
The German government excludes the possibility of operation of the German-Russian natural gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, the government spokesman emphasized, responding to related comments by the Kremlin and former chancellor Gerhard Schroeder. Siemens Energy for its part emphasized that has not delivered turbines for Nord Stream 2, but also that the turbine he repaired for Nord Stream 1 has not yet been possible to return to Gazprom.
“Yes, he rules it out” said government spokesman Steffen Hembestright on behalf of the chancellor when asked if Olaf Solz still rules out any possibility of a review of the decision to abandon Nord Stream 2. Last week the former chancellor Gerhard Schroederin an interview with Stern had stated that the operation of Nord Stream 2 would solve the problems of supplying Germany and Europe with natural gas, and the representative of the Kremlin Dmytro Peskov had reported that Vladimir Putin had spoken to Mr Schroeder about this during their recent meeting in Moscow.
According to the CEO of Siemens Energy Christian Bruchthe company has not delivered turbines for this particular pipeline, while the Nord Stream 1 turbine that was repaired in Canada and sent to Germany to be returned to Gazprom is still at Siemens facilities. “The turbine is still in Germany. Discussions about whether it can be shipped are ongoing”said Mr. Bruch.
The Russian side cites the problem with the turbine and has drastically reduced the volume of natural gas which is funneling into the pipeline, while at the same time arguing that in order to receive the component, sanctions against Russia would have to be lifted.
Mr. Bruch however, he rejected any possibility of legal consequences for his company, as, he said, Siemens Energy has fully complied with its agreements and can prove that it has done everything to repair and deliver the turbine as soon as possible.
