A Roppongi wooden roller coaster malfunctioned, injuring more than a dozen passengers, including five who were taken to hospital.

The incident occurred Thursday night at the El Toro ride at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey.

Some cyclists said they felt bumps, while others reported “leakage” and “loud noises,” according to the state Office of Community Affairs.

Holly Coe from Bensalem, Pennsylvania told ABC 6: “I’ve ridden roller coasters so many times I knew something was wrong.

This is my favorite beach in the park. At least it was.

A total of 14 cyclists were injured, five of them taken to hospital for back, neck, mouth or tongue injuries, according to the television company.

“Some people said, ‘I bit my tongue. It looks like it’s bleeding,'” Coe said. “I heard someone say his back hurts.”

All five patients have been discharged, according to ABC 6.

It was not immediately clear what caused Trip to malfunction.

On Friday, El Toro remained closed to theme park patrons.

The incident came after a vehicle derailed and was shut down last year. It hasn’t opened this year yet.

“It’s unsettling,” said Nick DiMuro of Whiting, New Jersey.

“Maybe a few more checks are needed beforehand to prevent that from happening.”

El Toro has a 176-foot drop, allowing riders to reach speeds of up to 70 mph.

“This beast is terribly spoiled, so suck it up!” the Six Flags website said,

This is not the first recent incident in American tourism. Some incidents were more tragic. In May, at Gillian’s Wonder Pier on the Jersey shore, a worker fell from a Ferris wheel elevator and died while riding.

And in July 2021, a raft capsized at an adventure park in Iowa, killing one person and injuring three others.
