Who is Britain’s new Foreign Secretary – He was Education Secretary after Boris Johnson resigned
Him James Cleverlei chose the new prime minister of Britain Liz Truss to succeed her in the Foreign Ministry, at a turbulent time in the international political arena.
For the 53-year-old Brexit campaigner, who hails from south-east London and whose mother is from Sierra Leone, this appointment as Britain’s foreign minister is a reward for his steadfast loyalty to Liz Truss during her campaign for his succession Boris Johnson.
He takes office at a difficult time: in addition to the war in Ukraine and increasingly strained relations with China, he will have to manage the standoff with the European Union over the Northern Ireland Protocol after Brexit.
For the past two months she has been Education Secretary, following the wave of resignations that followed Boris Johnson’s departure from No 10 Downing Street.
He was first elected as an MP in 2015, representing Essex (north-east of the capital) and became a running mate of Boris Johnson, who was then Mayor of London.
In 2018 he became deputy leader of the Conservative Party and co-leader 18 months later.
When former Prime Minister Theresa May stepped down in 2019, she ran to succeed her, calling on the Tories to “take a leap of faith, skip a generation and vote for a relatively new MP”. But after a week, he admitted he had no chance of securing the support needed to reach the final round.
Before his involvement in politics, James Cleverley, a graduate of the University of West London, ran websites to help small businesses grow.

The new British Prime Minister Liz Truss has reappointed Ben Wallace as Defense Secretary, Downing Street announced tonight.
Wallace, who has seen his popularity soar with his handling of the Ukraine war crisis, had been seen as the favorite to succeed Boris Johnson as the leader of the Conservative Party and as prime minister. However, he chose to retire and focus on his duties at Britain’s Ministry of Defence.
