A man, believed to be in his 20s, was shot dead by police during a police chase in south London.

The London Metropolitan Police announced the death after previously saying it had launched its own investigation into an incident involving a firearms expert in Lambeth.

Officers stopped the “suspect vehicle” after “tactical contact” at 9:51 p.m. Monday.

One man sustained a gunshot wound when police opened fire at Kirkstall Gardens in Streatham Hill.

Officers on scene administered first aid before taking him to the hospital.

However, doctors were unable to save him and he died shortly after midnight.

At 9:51pm on Monday 5th September firearms officers were summoned to the Lambeth area to search for the suspect vehicle.  The vehicle came to a stop after tactical contact at Kirkstall Gardens on Streatham Hill.  The policeman was fired.  A man under the age of 30 who was traveling in a suspicious vehicle received a gunshot wound.  He was called to the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance.  Officers administered first aid before arriving and took the man to the hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.  policeman?  ?  Awaiting assessment of his status.  No other information about the injured has been released.  A cordon has been established and the road has been blocked.  As usual, I contacted the Met's Directorate of Professional Standards and notified the Independent Police Conduct Service.  Investigations into the specific situation will continue.

In accordance with protocol, the Professional Standards Service of the Metropolitan Police Service and the Independent Police Action Service were contacted.

With the assistance of the London Ambulance Service and Air Ambulances, no one else was injured in the incident.
