Albert has confirmed that he will attend the funeral with Charlene, who was born and raised in Commonwealth of Nations South Africa.

Prince Albert of Monaco has paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth, a “great lady” he called her, by announcing he will attend her funeral with his wife Charlene.

The queen’s death “is an important event because, although she was of advanced age, we considered her almost indestructible,” the Monegasque prince said in a telephone interview with AFP. “She was a great lady. She had at the same time the intelligence of important people but also the stubbornness, determination and intelligence of the heart, she knew how to show her support to the world, she had a lot of wit,” he added.

Albert has confirmed that he will attend the funeral with Charlene, who was born and raised in Commonwealth of Nations South Africa.

Albert, who succeeded his father, Rainier, in 2005, had met several times with Elizabeth as well as with her successor, King Charles III. “We have talked a lot in recent years about ecology and sustainable development, we agreed on these issues,” he added.

The principality of Monaco has announced that flags will fly at half-mast from today until Elizabeth’s funeral, as a mark of respect for her.
