It “makes water” for the Russians Ramzan Kadyrov. Chechnya’s leader criticized the Russian military after Ukrainian forces retook large swathes of territory from the Russian military in northeastern Ukraine over the weekend.

Kadyrov is a key ally of the Russian president Vladimir Putinwho appointed him leader of the Russian republic of the North Caucasus in 2007.

“They (including the Russians) have made mistakes and I think they will draw the necessary conclusions,” Kadyrov said in an audio message posted on his Telegram account on Sunday, translated by the Guardian.

“If there are no changes in strategy today or tomorrow, I will be forced to speak with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the leadership of the country to explain to them the real situation on the ground,” Kadyrov explained, after the Ukrainian forces recaptured most of the Kharkiv region.

“It’s a very interesting situation. It’s amazing, I’d say,” he commented.

However, the head of Chechnya said he was confident that control of the region would be regained.

It means absolutely nothing. I, Ramzan Kadyrov, solemnly declare to you that all these cities will be returned. Another 10,000 fighters from Chechnya will arrive in Odessa in the near future,” he assured.

At the beginning of the month the Chechen leader had announced his withdrawal from the war situation in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian army has almost recaptured 6,000 square kilometers of areas controlled by Russian forces since early September when it launched its counteroffensive, Ukraine’s president said Volodymyr Zelensky.
