Imagine your city Tomorrow: Extension of the open call by the Municipality of Athens for submission of visual proposals

by

The theme of the visual proposals is the cities of tomorrow, with an extension until Sunday, September 25. – Bakoyannis: An invitation to reinvent our city artistically, creatively and collectively!

On the occasion of World Cities Day on 31 October 2022, the Municipality of Athens extends an open invitation to artists, architects, graphic artists, cartoonists, designers and other creators to submit their proposals on how they imagine their city in the future!

Cities are capacitors of the major social challenges facing Europe today. So how do we imagine the future will play out? In what ways can urban centers become more welcoming, sustainable and energy independent in an era of climate and environmental crisis as well as overpopulation? Can phenomena of social exclusion be tackled with spatial tools? What are the current possibilities and biggest challenges or limitations to the city experience for the local community?

“Through this outdoor exhibition we offer the possibility for a real-time inquiry into how we perceive and how we can reinvent the city visually, creatively and collectively. We need the imagination of creators to show us today what our tomorrow might look like and to plan our next steps for us and our children” said the Mayor of Athens regarding the open invitation Kostas Bakoyannis.

The proposals – utopian, dystopian, hypothetical, descriptive, exploratory, provocative, critical and reflective – which will be selected by a committee made up of experts in the field of visual arts, graphic design and architecture, will be presented in the form of posters in an outdoor space, at the stands along the sidewalk of Vasilissa Olga. The report, which is supported by the United Nations Regional Information Center (https://unric.org/el/), will be presented in October and November 2022 and will function as an open archive, documenting discussions, exchanges and interventions in order to subsequently produce a printed version.

Interested parties are invited to send their works in JPG/TIFF format as well as their contact details to the email address: [email protected] until Sunday, September 25, 2022.

For more information and clarifications, interested parties can call at 2103722082.

All interested parties will receive a response regarding the progress of their proposal.
