Earlier today, pro-Russian authorities in Russian-controlled provinces of eastern and southern Ukraine announced they would hold referendums on union with Russia from September 23 to 27, prompting an angry reaction from Kiev.

Moscow’s planned referendums on the annexation of additional Ukrainian territories will have no impact, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said today.

Earlier today, pro-Russian authorities in Russian-controlled provinces of eastern and southern Ukraine announced they would hold referendums on union with Russia from September 23 to 27, prompting an angry reaction from Kiev.

These are the Donetsk and Luhansk provinces in eastern Ukraine and the Russian-occupied zones of Kherson and Zaporizhia regions in southern Ukraine.

“The Russians can do whatever they want. Nothing will change,” Kuleba said, answering questions from reporters at the start of a meeting with US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield.
