Provocative Erdogan at the UN: Greece is turning the Aegean into a cemetery for immigrants

The Turkish president accused Greece of doing illegal push backs and sinking migrant boats – Tips for the Evros fence

Making black and white once again, the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, unleashed the well-known non-existent accusations against Greece regarding immigration.

From the floor of the 77th United Nations General Assembly, after describing how Turkey is working for the safe return of Syrian refugees back home, Erdogan said Turkey puts human life first, unlike others who build border fences and cramming refugees into camps.

Referring specifically to Greece, he said it does illegal push backs, turns the Aegean into a refugee graveyard and sinks migrants’ boats.

We do not want to see dead bodies of babies in the waters of the Aegean, he said characteristically and called on the international community to force Greece to stop these crimes against humanity.

To support his claims, Erdogan brought with him photos of dead children and presented them as a result of Greece’s actions at sea.

Erdogan also referred to the Greek-Turkish language, saying that Greece must stop the provocations, adding that Turkey will not stop defending its rights in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean.

He also did not fail to talk again about a “Turkish minority” in Greece with rights that Greece does not recognize.

Regarding the Cyprus issue, he said that he wants a solution that recognizes two states and two nations with equal rights, while he called for the lifting of the sanctions and the embargo on the “TRNC”.

In Ukrainian, the Turkish president today called on the United Nations to find a “dignified” exit for all parties to the war.

“Together, we must find a reasonable diplomatic solution that will offer both parties a dignified exit from the crisis,” Erdogan told the UN General Assembly in New York.

“We will continue to intensify our efforts to end the war … on the basis of the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine,” he added.

The Turkish president stressed that he hopes that “the war cannot prevail” and that a “fair peace process can prevail”, recalling that twice since the start of the war on February 24, Turkey managed to bring together the representatives of Russia and of Ukraine in Antalya in southern Turkey and Istanbul.

“I call on international organizations and all countries to sincerely support Turkey’s efforts,” he added.

The Turkish president, who has managed to maintain ties with Moscow and Kyiv since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, has regularly offered to mediate in that war, reiterating the need to find a deal that satisfies both parties.
