Kherson authorities have decided to hold a referendum on annexation to Russia, Vladimir Saldo, head of the region’s military-political administration, said on his Telegram channel on Tuesday.

“Having considered the appeals of public organizations and residents of the region, the leadership of the administration of the Kherson Region decided to hold a referendum on the region’s accession to the Russian Federation. I am sure that the leadership of the Russian Federation will accept the results of the referendum and the Kherson region will be part of Russia, becoming a full subject of the unitary state,” Saldo wrote.

Meanwhile, pro-Russian authorities in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk provinces – which are under Russian control – announced today that they would hold referendums on union with Russia from September 23 to 27, prompting an angry reaction from Kiev. , in a major escalation of the conflict.
