Eric Blake, the acting head of the Miami-based US National Hurricane Center, said that even if Fiona follows the path forecast by forecasters and passes west of Bermuda, heavy rain and very strong winds are expected on the island. , as well as high waves at sea. In the neighbor’s Dominican Republic, Fiona caused severe flooding. At least 12,500 people were forced to leave their homes and hundreds of thousands were left without power.
