A huge fire broke out this Sunday (25) in one of the warehouses that make up the Rungis, a kind of Parisian Ceagesp and considered the world’s largest fresh produce market.
A spokesperson for the fire department says the fire is almost under control, and that there are no reports of casualties or risk of spread. “There are 30 devices on site, and about one hundred professionals have been mobilized,” he says.
Local authorities said the source of the fire, which started in a fruit and vegetable warehouse, was not yet known. A thick cloud of smoke could be seen from miles away.
Located about seven kilometers south of Paris, Rungis is considered the largest wholesale fresh produce market in the world, with an area of 234 hectares.
