Russia: Duma emergency meeting on October 3 – Decides on the integration of Ukrainian regions

The State Duma will hold an extraordinary meeting on October 3which will discuss the results of referendums held in the Russian military-held and pro-Russian separatist regions of Ukraine, and will likely decided to incorporate them into Russia. The extraordinary meeting of the State Duma (lower house) was announced by its president Vychislav Volodinthe Interfax agency reported.

From the point of view of International law this can be evaluated as annexation. Ukraine, the US and the European Union and several other countries have said they will not recognize their annexation.

The meeting will take place on Monday at 14:00.

At the same time, the “head” of the self-proclaimed “People’s Republic of Luhansk” Leonid Pasetsnik appealed to the Russian president Vladimir Putin, asking him to consider the integration of the (LDL) in Russia as the Ria Novosti agency writes. According to RIA Novosti, Pasechnik stated in his appeal that Ukraine “terrorized the people of Donbas for eight years”.

“There is no doubt that together with Russia we will restore justice and military criminals will have a fair trial,” he said.

Pasetsnik and the “head” of the “Donetsk People’s Republic” Denis Pushilin left for Moscow.
