Nelson de Sá: Bolsonarista wave echoes in the United States, which votes in a month

by

In the American press, attention on the Brazilian election turns to the parallels with the United States. The New York Times reported that “U.S. election deniers push the idea that voting in Brazil has been corrupted.”

Former White House strategist Steve Bannon said in his program that the Brazilian election is “a very strong warning of the games that are being played in these elections”, listing what Americans should do to monitor the US vote on Nov. .

A column in the Washington Post and an article in Time magazine also highlighted the similarities between Bolsonarism and Trumpism — and even, in the newspaper’s case, with neo-fascism in Sweden and Italy.

‘GO BOLSONARO!!!’

In outlets still open to news about the former American president, such as The Hill, Donald Trump’s message on the Truth Social platform echoes, crediting himself, in part, with Bolsonaro’s result in the first round:

“So happy to have helped a great person and a great leader reach the difficult runoff. Voters made a great decision in giving such strong support to the brilliant and hardworking Jair Bolsonaro. Now, for the sake of Brazil and its future greatness, they have to put Jair ahead at the finish line, against a Socialist of the Radical Left, on October 30th. Go Bolsonaro!!!”

He had himself publicized on social media the Trump support.

FERTILIZER LEFT

After Bolsonaro’s effort with Vladimir Putin to guarantee imports, “Brazil has so much fertilizer that it is refusing cargo”, reports Bloomberg. “A record amount was bought this year.” A ship that arrived in Paranaguá on September 13 left nine days later taking the fertilizer to New Orleans, USA.

‘HOLDING BREATH’

The Financial Times published the above cartoon, by cartoonist Jeremy Banks (Banx), with trees worried about the news from Brazil.
