The regional governor in Zaporizhia, Ukraine, Mr Oleksandr Starukh, announced in the early hours of today that Russian shelling in the city of the same name had hit residences, citing casualties and fires.

“As a result of enemy attacks, fires broke out in the city. The enemy targeted residential buildings in Zaporizhia with rockets. They suffered significant damage. There are victims. Rescuers are already pulling people out of the rubble. Terror and murders of peaceful people in Zaporizhia! The attackers fired 7 rockets at high-rise buildings” he reports on his Telegram channel citing relevant photos.

Meanwhile, dozens of firefighters rushed to put out flames in a town near Kyiv on Wednesday after what local officials said were strikes by Iranian-made drones, often known as “kamikaze drones”.

Six drones hit a building overnight in Bela Chergva, about 75 kilometers south of Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast Governor Oleksiy Kuleba said.

Ukraine has reported a series of Russian strikes using Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones over the past three weeks, but the strike in Bela Chergva was by far the closest to the capital Kyiv.
