Patriarch Theodoros will be awarded this year’s Athenagoras Human Rights Award
The Archbishop of America Elpidophoros welcomed yesterday, in New York, the Patriarch of Alexandria Theodore, who is making his first official visit to the United States of America until October 12.
Patriarch Theodoros will be awarded this year’s Athenagoras Human Rights Award by the Order of Saint Andrew, as part of the annual dinner of the Lords of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on Saturday evening, October 8, at the Hilton Hotel in New York.
Today, the Patriarch of Alexandria is expected to meet with the Roman Catholic Archbishop of New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, and tour St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan. Then, as planned, he will make a ceremonial visit to the headquarters of the Archdiocese of America, where he will sing a solemn eulogy in the Chapel of the Apostle Paul.
As part of the historic visit, which is the first to the USA by a Patriarch of Alexandria, Theodore will hold meetings with other local religious leaders and state actors, while visiting the Holy Church of Saint Nicholas, the national pilgrimage site of the United States of America, in Ground Zero of New York, but also several Greek Orthodox communities in both New York and Washington.
