“We have heard threats from Moscow, but the preservation of diplomatic channels helps us to explain that this scenario is unacceptable,” noted the spokesman of the French presidency.
France is vigilant and maintains diplomatic channels with Russia in order to rule out the scenario of a nuclear disasterFrench government spokesman Olivier Veran said on Friday.
“France and Western Europe are on high alert, and will use all means, including diplomas, in order to prevent the development of events in accordance with the scenario of a nuclear disaster,” he told the BFM television channel. “We have heard threats from Moscow, but maintaining diplomatic channels helps us explain that this scenario is unacceptable,” the official noted.
“We are carefully considering all scenarios, including the situation around the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP),” he said. According to the French official, “currently, the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is working at the nuclear power plant in order to ensure its safety conditions and confirm the absence of problems with its reactors.”
The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant located in Energondar is controlled by Russian troops. At the beginning of September, the nuclear facility was visited by the IAEA mission led by its Director General, Rafael Grossi. After the mission left the nuclear plant, two IAEA officials stayed behind as observers. Later, the IAEA published a report urging the creation of a safety zone around the nuclear facility to prevent accidents caused by military action.
