Pebbles, the dog who held the record for the world’s oldest dog, died earlier this week at the age of 22 in the southeastern US, the Guinness Book of World Records announced on its website.

“Pebbles, the oldest dog in the world, sadly passed away, of natural causes and peacefully at home with her family around her,” the people who owned her wrote on the social networking site Instagram.

Pebbles, a country music fan, died five months shy of her 23rd birthday.

The small dog weighing only two kilograms gave birth to 32 puppies during her long life.

Pebbles was declared the oldest dog in the world in May 2022 during a visit by experts from the Guinness Book of Records, the institution that records records in all fields.

According to her owner, Julie Gregory, the secret to Pebbles’ longevity and health lies in the care of her hygiene, which she observed “with the utmost dedication”.

This female Fox Terrier has been fed cat food since 2012, which may have contributed to her longevity.
