US support for the Parthenon Sculptures: MP Carolyn Maloney supports their return

The Holy Rock of the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum were visited on Thursday by American politician and Member of the US House of Representatives Carolyn B. Maloney, accompanied by the chairman of the Special Standing Committee on Environmental Protection of the House Dr. Dionysia – Theodora Avgerinopoulouas well as the president of the Euro-American Women’s Council (EAWC) Lula Loi – Alafogianni.

The purpose of the visit was to promote in the United States of America the just demand for the return of the Parthenon Sculptures, an issue for which they also held a related press conference, as stated in a related announcement by Mrs. Augerinopoulou, which also quotes statements by Carolyn Maloney. “Western civilization owes a debt of gratitude to Greek civilization that we can never fully repay. Whenever the reins of government change hands peacefully anywhere in the West, we should be deeply grateful to the Greeks for the invention of Democracy…”.

He pointed out that she wants to join her voice with the voice of those asking the British Museum to return the Parthenon Sculptures to their rightful owners: the people of Greece.

As mentioned in the same announcement, Maloni also informed that she got in touch with the Executive Director of the Hellenic American Leadership Council, Eddie Zemenidis, and that the two of them they will work together to establish a Pan-American committee to mobilize Americans for the return of the Sculptors.

Ms. Maloni invited Ms. Avgerinopoulou to attend a Congressional Committee in support of the repatriation of the Sculptors. Both Ms. Maloni and Ms. Avgerinopoulou are Members of the Hellenic American Council of Women.
