Lula says Tebet will have whatever role he wants in the campaign and hears a message about fiscal responsibility

Former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) met this Friday (7th) with Simone Tebet (MDB), who was third in the presidential race, and received a promise of “full support” from the senator.

In his speech, Tebet said his proposals were accepted by the PT campaign and mentioned the “fiscal responsibility that the moment demands”.

“We have our political and economic differences, but they are infinitely smaller than what unites us,” he said. “This is not a date set by history, but it is undoubtedly demanded by history.”

Lula thanked the support, said he learned “a lot” from the senator’s campaign and, when asked about Tebet’s role in the campaign, said that she “will do whatever she wants”.

The senator said that she will go “where the campaign needs it”, citing that she will be on the streets, squares and rallies.

The PT candidate also stated that the government proposal presented by Tebet is “totally assimilable” to the government plan of his campaign and signaled for the senator to participate in an eventual administration.

“You can be sure that we are going to put it into practice. And I hope you will be together to help carry out each of these things that you propose,” said Lula.

When asked if she will position herself as an interlocutor with the agribusiness sector, a segment that is more aligned with President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Tebet said that she will “fulfill missions where she thinks they are necessary” and that she sees it possible “to reverse ” this alignment of the segment with the current chief of the Executive when presenting and detailing Lula’s government program

“I’m from agribusiness and I’m ready, even, to demystify this mistaken thesis that only interests the current president of the Republic, that it’s agribusiness or the environment. When, in fact, the two go together”, he said.

The PT member again said that he does not intend to disclose who his ministers will be in an eventual government before the end of the elections. He stated that it is necessary, first, to win the elections before discussing the composition of the government, because “this is not a business, this is a programmatic action.”

“Simone is here to help us recover democracy in our country. After we recover democracy, we will sit down again and we will know the path we are going to take. I’m sure it will be a good path”, he continued. Squid.

When asked about the declaration of fiscal responsibility that she made at the beginning of her speech, the senator said that she understands “the PT’s position, which is to be against the spending ceiling”, but that some minimum fiscal anchor is needed.

“Not necessarily a spending ceiling. Some anchor, minimal, that obviously gives comfort to the market, that gives tranquility to investors, so that we can have a balanced economy. But that is on account of the economic team itself”, said Tebet.

This was their first public meeting. On Wednesday (5), Lula and Tebet had lunch together at the house of former mayor Marta Suplicy, in São Paulo, and sealed the deal for the second round.

In it, the senator presented and the PT agreed to incorporate into his government plan proposals that she took over in the first round.

After lunch, Tebet declared support for the PT candidate, saying he did not recognize in the current president, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), a commitment to democracy. She also stated that what is at stake is “much bigger than each of us”.

On Wednesday night, to the press, Lula stated that he wants the senator on trips and rallies by his side and that Tebet’s support is “programmatic”.

Since receiving Tebet’s support, Lula has been welcoming proposals dear to the senator. In a meeting with PSD parliamentarians on Thursday (6), the PT spoke of renegotiating the debt of families, with the creation of a fund that would serve as a guarantor for creditors.

This was one of the five items presented by Tebet as a condition for participating in the campaign.

In the morning, in a speech after walking in São Bernardo do Campo, Lula mentioned another proposal by the emedebista: salary parity for women who perform the same function as men within the same company.

In an interview with Sheet on Thursday, Tebet stated that the “fatal mistake” that cost PT the victory in the first round of elections was not having detailed its government plan and having only focused on its past achievements. Now, she hopes that this error will be fixed.
