“Any French visitor, including those with dual citizenship, runs a high risk of arrest, arbitrary detention and unfair trial,” the foreign ministry said on its website.

France on Friday urged its citizens in Iran to leave the country as soon as possible as they risk being arbitrarily detained.

“Any French visitor, including those with dual citizenship, runs a high risk of arrest, arbitrary detention and unfair trial,” the foreign ministry said on its website.

Paris this week accused Iran of “dictatorial practices” and says two French citizens are being held hostage after a video was released Thursday in which they allegedly confessed to being spies. Tehran blames “foreign enemies” for the protests and unrest that have been going on for weeks.

Earlier, France’s foreign ministry called on Iran to release the two French citizens.
