It seems that the Commission’s report on the enlargement will be a slap in the face for Turkey, as according to the draft which is expected to be presented on Wednesday, it is pointed out that Ankara does not seem to have made any progress.

As ERT reports in its report, having the draft at its disposal, the Commission emphasizes that Turkey must respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the member states and commit to good neighborly relations.

In other words, it recalls the conclusions of the March 2021 Summit.

The Commission points again to the serious problems in democratic institutions and the deterioration of human and fundamental rights.

As far as immigration is concerned, he states that there is some progress, however he emphasizes that the agreement for the return of illegal immigrants from Greece remains suspended.
