The “golden billion”, i.e. the countries of the West, are living at the expense of the rest of the world, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed on Thursday.
For great risks of starvation and “widespread shocks” due to the volatility of energy and food prices, warned Thursday Vladimir Putin. Putin said his country was trying to establish “a system of equal and indivisible security”.
“The golden billion”, i.e. the countries of the West, lives at the expense of the rest of the world, the Russian president also argued at the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in the Kazakh capital Astana.
“Russia is in favor of revising the principles of the global financial system,” he said in his opening statement. Putin said characteristically “that the current global financial system has enabled the ‘golden billion’ to live at the expense of others”.
Stating that Asia is a region where new centers of power emerge, Putin argued that the continent has a big role to play in the transition to a multipolar world order. “It is essential to remove all barriers to supply chains in the world,” he added.
The Russian leader arrived in Astana on Wednesday, and is expected to hold several trilateral and bilateral talks.
Putin will also attend the Council of Heads of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Russia-Central Asia Summit in the Kazakh capital.
He is about to meet his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoganwith whom he may discuss possible dialogue between Russia and leading European countries, as well as Turkey’s mediation efforts on Ukraine, where Moscow launched a “special military operation” in February.
The Karabakh issue with Azerbaijan and Armenia and border disputes between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are also expected to be discussed with the respective heads of state.
