After intensive negotiations under the auspices of the United States, Israel announced on Tuesday the conclusion of the agreement to demarcate the maritime border with Lebanon — while the two countries are formally at war — and to remove obstacles to exploitation of natural gas fields in the eastern Mediterranean.

US President Joe Biden then hailed “historic progress” and called on all sides to “work to implement the agreement”. He also thanked Macron for “his support in the negotiations”.

The French president, for his part, “welcomed the mediation of the United States”. France will cooperate “fully” in the implementation of the agreement, the Elysee added.
