Recently released satellite images from Maxar Technologies show anti-tank fortification of almost two kilometers of four rows of concrete pyramids with a large moat behind them in the Russian-held town of Hirske in eastern Ukraine, CNN reports.
According to CNN, Russian media reports from the region calling the fortification “Wagner Line” reference to Russian state-backed mercenary group Wagner.
A Russian tabloid also recently reported that the Wagner Group would continue to expand the fortification, but additional satellite images analyzed by the US network showed no further construction…
In this context, CNN comments that while the fortification may stop a frontal attack, Ukrainian forces could just bypass it.
It is noted that in a recent report, the Institute for the Study of War states that the Russian financier of the Wagner Group Yevgeny Prigozhin – once called “Putin’s chef” because of his businesses hosting dinners attended by the Russian president – and associated social media accounts, are increasingly critical of Russian military and social issues in Russia, which “may indirectly to undermine the Kremlin’s dominance.”
