With the shape of 25 ministries, the new government in Serbia will implement its program
The composition of the new government was announced by Aleksandar Vucic at the meeting of the Central Committee of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) which he leads. It is a coalition government of Progressives and Socialists that will also have the support of minority parties.
The President of the Republic stated that he will entrust the task of forming a government to the current Prime Minister.Ana Brnabitz while also revealing the names of the 25 ministers who will form the government. It is interesting that the current Minister of the Interior (formerly Police) Aleksandar Vulin has been excluded from the new government, who in recent months publicly expressed his support for Russia and often criticized the West, even supporting the view that Serbia should renounce the accession to the European Union.
Zorana Mihailovic, Minister of Infrastructure, who, unlike Vulin, expressed anti-Russian positions and was committed to the country’s European path, will also be outside the government. Mihailovic had recently stated that the Serbia he should clearly and openly condemn the atrocities of Russian troops in Ukraine, a statement that caused a backlash within the Serbian Progressive Party. Another ten ministers of the current government remain outside the new government structure. These are mainly ministers whose names were involved in corruption scandals or came into conflict with Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.
Socialist leader Ivica Dacic returns to the new government of Serbia, who will take over as foreign minister. Dacic also held this office in the period 2014-2020.
Ana Brnabic is expected within the next week to present the program of the new government to parliament and ask for a vote of confidence.
Parliamentary elections in Serbia were held on April 3, 2022.
