Europe has a special role to play in supporting the reconstruction of Ukraine, the German Chancellor and the President of the European Union stress in their joint article

The post-war reconstruction of Ukraine is Mission of an entire “generation” and will require a “Marshall Plan” level strategy, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stressed in a joint article published yesterday on the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sontagszeitung website.

The article was published ahead of today’s German-Ukrainian reconstruction-focused business forum in Berlin. This forum will be jointly opened by Mr. Soltz and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Smyhal.

Europe has a special role to play in support of the reconstruction of Ukraine, country candidate for admission to the EU, Mr. Soltz and Mrs. von der Leyen stressed. “The road of reconstruction is also consequently Ukraine’s road to the European Union.”

“Ukraine also defends the rules-based international order, the foundation of our peaceful coexistence and prosperity on a global scale. So when we support Ukraine we are building our future and that of our Europe,” according to the text.

Mr. Soltz has already said that the reconstruction of Ukraine is a task of the international community that will take decades.
