Five injured by an explosion in Melitopol, according to the city’s pro-Russian authorities

Five people were injured today by a powerful explosion that occurred in Melitopolis, in southeastern Ukraine, the pro-Russian occupation authorities announced.

“Car exploded in Melitopolis near media company building”ZaMedia'”, they clarified in their announcement which they posted on Telegram.

“Five people were slightly injured” in the blast, which shattered glass in doors and windows on several floors of the building, according to the same source.

One of the injured was hospitalized, the statement added.

Russian public television network Russia 24 it broadcast images of the building that appeared to show its interior walls partially burned, glass windows and doors broken, and stairways littered with rubble.

The building was home to a pro-Russian television and radio network, which “continue to operate,” authorities said.

According to the Russian journalist Alexander Malkevich, who oversees the operation of the ZaMedia television network, a car rigged with explosives detonated as workers headed to their offices in the morning.

“The power (of the explosives) corresponded to 1.5-2 kilograms of TNT,” Malkevich added, quoted by Russian news agencies.

Melitopol is in Zaporizhia Oblast, which was annexed by Russia in September along with three other Ukrainian oblasts — athose of Donetsk, Luhansk and Kherson.
