Moscow has offered no evidence to support its claims

The Kremlin repeated his claims today that Ukraine intends to use a “dirty bomb”, warning the West that it is dangerous to reject Moscow’s positions.

Ukraine, the US, Britain and France have rejected Moscow’s claims, made by several Russian officials in recent days, that Kyiv is preparing to use a “dirty bomb”, meaning conventional explosives containing radioactive material.

During a brief press briefing, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that this attitude of the West is “stupid” given the seriousness of the situation.

Moscow has offered no evidence to support its claims.

“It’s a far from serious approach,” Peskov commented, referring to the US response to Russia’s claims. “It is an approach that is not allowed given the seriousness of the danger we are talking about (…) Once again we underline the great danger of Ukraine’s plans regarding a dirty bomb,” Peskov underlined.

In the meantime, the Kremlin estimated that “there is no hope” that Russia’s relations with Britain will improve after Rishi Sunak took over as prime minister.

“At the moment we see no conditions, no basis and we have no hope for any positive change in the near future,” Peskov said.

“Russia remains open and ready to discuss the most difficult issues at the negotiating table. But not at the expense of our own interests”, he underlined.

Following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, relations between Russia and the West are at their worst since the Cold War.

Ukraine has been supported by the West — diplomatically and militarily with the delivery of arms — while sanctions have been imposed on Russia. Besides, Ukrainian soldiers are trained by the British.
