Flames shot into the air after the motorcycle ignited and spread to the gas station pump
Video shows how a fire broke out at a gas station in Washington, D.C. after a motorcycle burst into flames while the rider was parked at the pumps to fill up.
Flames shot into the air after the motorcycle ignited and spread to the pump, which was still receiving fuel from underground storage tanks, it is understood.
It is not yet clear how the machine caught fire, but fire crews say they had to shut off the fuel supply to the burning pump before the site was fully evacuated. Fire chiefs are treating the fire as an accident.
The fire service said: “We responded immediately from the first moment. There were reports of a motorcycle on fire. Our crews isolated the fuel device before evacuating the station. The station has been closed and it is not yet clear when it will reopen to the public.”
