The Turkish authorities they proceeded today to 25 arrests regarding the October 14 explosion at coal mine city’s Badass, which claimed the lives of 41 workers. Among those arrested is the director of the mine, Jihat Ozdemir, as reported by the Anadolu news agency.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had vowed during his visit to the scene of the tragedy that “no one will be spared” if responsibilities arise after the investigation is completed.

The fatal accident in Amasra evoked memories of the 2014 tragedy at a coal mine in the western Turkish city of Soma, where 301 workers were killed after an explosion and fire caused a shaft to collapse. Turkish justice had later imposed prison terms of up to 22.5 years on three managers of the mine.
