The Prime Ministers of the two countries reiterated today their desire for the two countries to join NATO at the same time
Finland and Sweden are committed to joining NATO at the same time, the prime ministers of the two Nordic aspirational countries reiterated today.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristerson said his country is fully committed to meeting the terms of the tripartite agreement reached in Madrid for Turkey to lift its objections to the two countries’ accession.
“We have to do our part – and we are doing it,” he told reporters after meeting his Finnish counterpart Sanna Marin in Helsinki.
“We are working very hard to implement what Sweden needs to do and we will report in detail what we have achieved,” he added.
Sana Marin, for her part, noted that “it is very important for us that Finland and Sweden join NATO hand in hand,” recalling that she recently discussed Turkey’s concerns with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Prague. The Turkish president told her that “there are not many issues regarding Finland (but) some issues around Sweden.”
