Russian forces again blame Ukraine and Britain for massive drone attack on Black Sea fleet – Earlier Moscow also blamed Britain for Nord Stream explosions – ‘Lies on an epic scale’, London responds
A standoff has erupted in recent hours between Russia and Britain following accusations launched earlier today by the Russian Ministry of Defense that “representatives” of a British Royal Navy unit blew up the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea.
Britain denied these allegations by characterizing them “liars on an epic scale” however, Moscow continued to launch accusations against Britain as well as Ukraine, saying that they were also responsible for the massive drone attack against the Black Sea fleet in Crimea.
In response to the Russian accusations, a representative of the British ministry said in a post on Twitter that “to distract attention from the disastrous handling of the illegal invasion of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of Russia is resorting to spreading false allegations on an epic scale.”
“This latest fabricated story says more about the divisions within the Russian government than it does about the West,” he added.
“Britain is behind pipeline explosions”
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry, citing “available information”, claimed that “representatives” of a British Royal Navy unit blew up the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea.
The ministry did not present any evidence for this claim.
“According to the available information, representatives of this unit of the British (Royal) Navy participated in the planning, preparation and implementation of a terrorist attack in the Baltic Sea on September 26 this year, blowing up the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines,” stated in the announcement.
A few days ago the Kremlin claimed that Europeans will be surprised to learn the “truth” for the explosions last month that caused the leaks in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines, which were built to transport Russian gas to Europe.
Russia has repeatedly asked to be included in the international investigation into these leaks, which occurred as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine rages and against the backdrop of the gas “battle” between Russia and the EU.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today that Moscow was working “intensively” to be included in the investigation, which it has accused in the past of being “arranged” to pin the blame on Russia.
“Britain and Ukraine behind Black Sea attack”
Also the Russian armed forces blamed Ukraine and Britain for the massive drone strike against the Black Sea Fleet in Crimea.
According to Russian authorities, this attack caused “minor damage” to a ship.
“The preparation of this terrorist act and the training of military personnel of the 73rd Ukrainian Naval Special Operations Center were carried out by British specialists based in Ochakov, Mykolayiv region of Ukraine,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement posted on Telegram.
Moscow maintains that the targeted ships were involved in protecting convoys tasked with exporting Ukrainian grain.
“It should be emphasized that the ships of the Black Sea Fleet that were attacked by terrorists are participating in ensuring the security of the “grain corridor” within the framework of an international initiative to export agricultural products from the ports of Ukraine,” Moscow’s Defense Ministry said.
The Russian military claimed to have “destroyed” nine aerial drones and seven sea ones during the early Saturday morning attack on the port.
Moscow forces claim that British “experts”, who they said were based in the southern Ukrainian city of Ochakiv, helped prepare and train Kiev to carry out the strike.
