Officials said about 50 people went into cardiac arrest
Tragedy struck a nightclub in Seoul’s Itaegun district when patrons were trampled late Saturday as a large crowd gathered to celebrate Halloween.
Citing fire authorities, China’s Xinhua News Agency reported that 50 people suffered cardiac arrest.
At the same time, Choi Cheon-sik, an official of the National Fire Service, said about 100 people had been injured.

Images on social media showed many patrons lying on the pavement as bystanders tried to give them CPR in an attempt to revive them.
Emergency workers received at least 81 calls from people who said they were having trouble breathing.

South Korean President Yun Suk-yeol ordered the deployment of disaster response forces to the scene. More than 400 emergency workers from across the country have arrived at the scene.
