Some claim to have abandoned the social media platform, while others urge progressives to stay and fight
Celebrities are starting to ditch Twitter, or at least pretend they are, ever since it became known that the Elon Musk took over the popular social networking platform.
“I’m getting out of here,” the “This Is Us” producer said. Ken Olin, to his 300,000 followers on Friday, after previously promising: “The day @elonmusk takes ownership of Twitter, I’m leaving. No criticism. Let’s keep the faith. Let’s protect our democracy. Let’s try to be kinder. Let’s try to save the planet. Let’s try to be more generous. Let’s try to find peace in the world.” He noted that he will try to try Tribel social instead.
Hey all –
I’m out of here. No judgement.
Let’s keep the faith.
Let’s protect our democracy.
Let’s try to be kinder.
Let’s try to save the planet.
Let’s try to be more generous.
Let’s look to find peace in the world.

The star of “Bill & Ted”, Alex Winter, likewise appears to have abandoned the platform. He deleted his tweet history, left behind a Linktree address and posted a meme about Musk taking over the platform that depicted the new Twitter chief as three bodyguards alongside former president Donald Trump and Kanye West.
However, some are encouraging people to stay on the platform to continue expressing their views, at least until the upcoming midterm elections.
The director and activist, Rob Reiner, who had previously expressed dismay at Musk’s takeover of the platform, tweeted: “For those fighting to preserve our constitutional democracy, now is not the time to quit Twitter. Now is the time to VOTE BLUE!”.
For those who are fighting to preserve our Constitutional Democracy, now is not the time to leave Twitter. Now is the time to VOTE BLUE!

Other progressives on the platform indicate they are staying for now, but will surely quit once Trump’s Twitter account is reinstated, which Musk has said he likely will.
THE Mia Farrowfor example, said he would leave the platform if it became more toxic under Musk.
Minutes after Elon Musk became Twitter’s owner, the platform was filled with profanity and a torrent of racist, antisemitic, Islamophobic, homophobic, and transphobic hate speech https://t.co/136jtrx3CL

The actress Jameela Jamil, quit Twitter on April 25, according to People, and said: “I fear this bid for free speech will help this platform of hell reach its final form of completely lawless hate, bigotry and misogyny . Good luck”. He later deleted the tweet and returned to the platform.
One good thing about Elon buying twitter is that I will *FINALLY* leave and stop being a complete menace to society on here. So it’s win win for you all really. 😂

Some on the platform are comparing the protests to celebrities who said they would leave the United States if Trump was elected, but ended up staying anyway…
