Italy: Record increases in food – 329% increase in energy in one year

Huge price increases on basic products

Following the presentation of October inflation data (plus 11.9% on an annual basis) by the Italian Institute of Statistics Istat, today the Italian Consumer Union Unc refers to revaluations of basic products of the food sector.

More detail, the seed oil, within a year, in Italy it increased by 56%, the butter by 42.9%, sugar by 35.9% and the rice by 30.6%.

At the same time, price of milk long-term saw an increase of 29.4%, of vegetables of 25.1% while the flour, in the last twelve months it increased by 23.7%.

The appreciations in spaghetti reached 22.5%, eggs 18.7% while the price of chicken increased by 18% compared to October 2021.

According to the Italian Consumers Association, within twelve months the cost of energy on the free market more than tripled, with an increase of 329%.

The president of Unc, Masimilano Donna, finally predicted that based on the latest increase in inflation, this year Italian households will be asked, on average, to spend 3,324 euros more than last year.
