At least nine people, including children, were killed in a twin bombing with car bombs that happened today outside the Ministry of Education in the capital Mogadishu, according to police and security sources.

The two near-simultaneous blasts took place on the busy K5 road and there are “many casualties,” said Sadiq Dudis, a Somali police spokesman.

A resident of the area, Ahmed Noor, told Reuters that the first blast damaged the wall of the ministry. The second occurred when an ambulance was arriving at the scene and people had gathered to help the victims.

“The second explosion blew up our ambulance that had gone to transport the victims of the first,” said Abdiqadir Abdirahman, the founder of Amin Ambulance Service. The driver and an ambulance were injured.
