North Korea conducted an ICBM test that apparently “failed,” according to Seoul

The United States condemned North Korea’s decision to launch intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), calling for the international community to strictly implement the sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council on Pyongyang due to its weapons programs.

The ICBM launch “underscores the need for all countries to fully implement relevant UN Security Council sanctions,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a press release.

North Korea test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), but it was reportedly a failure, a senior South Korean military officer said, according to South Korea’s national Yonhap news agency.

“North Korea’s Test of an ICBM seems to have ended in failure” this military source told Yonap. It was followed by two short-range ballistic missile launches, he added.

He clarified that the failure of the test occurred during the second stage of detachment of part of the missile.

If the information is accurate, it would be Pyongyang’s seventh test launch of such a weapon this year and the first since May.

Intercontinental ballistic missiles with an effective range of 5,500 kilometers or more, often capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, are characterized.
