Xi also told Scholz that China and Germany should respect each other and look after each other’s core interests, according to the Xinhua news agency.

Chinese President Xi Jinping met today with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the first leader of the Group of Seven (G7) most developed industrialized nations to visit China since the Covid pandemic broke out, and warned of how easy it is to destroy mutual political trust.

Solz’s one-day visit is a test of the waters between China and the West after years of rising tensions, analysts said, with talks revolving around Russia’s war in Ukraine, the climate change and mutual access to the respective markets.

During lunch with Soltz, Si he underlined that it is easy to destroy political trust, but difficult to rebuild it and that both sides need to protect it, the state-run Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

Xi also told Scholz that China and Germany should respect each other and look after each other’s core interests, according to New China.

Earlier, while welcoming Soltz to the Great Hall of the People in the heart of Beijing, Xi called for the two countries to cooperate more closely on international issues.

“As major influential countries, in times of change and turmoil China and Germany should cooperate even more, contribute more to world peace and development,” Xi said, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.

“Right now, the international situation is complicated and unstable,” underlined the Chinese president.
