“A number of concrete initiatives are being planned, including increasing cooperation with Turkey on gas and organizing large shipments of grain and fertilizer,” a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Russia will announce a number of initiatives related to cooperation with Turkey in the field of natural gas and with grain exports during the meeting of the leaders of the Group of 20 (G20) to be held next week in Indonesia, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced today.
“A number of specific initiatives are planned, including increasing cooperation with Turkey in gas and organizing large grain and fertilizer shipments,” he said in a statement.
The Russian president Vladimir Putin, who will not attend the summit for life, has proposed the creation of what he called a “gas hub” in Turkey through which Russian gas could be sold to the European market.
The foreign ministry said it hoped the summit would help establish a “multipolar” world – a term often used by Putin to criticize Western dominance of world affairs.
Russia’s presence at the G20 summit has drawn criticism from Western countries and Ukraine, which has called for Putin to be banned from the meeting.
Russian and Indonesian officials said today that Putin will not attend the summit in person, but may participate via video conference. The head of the Russian delegation in Bali will be the foreign minister Sergey Lavrov.
