A “pariah state” characterizes Russia Rishi Sunak due to his absence Vladimir Putin from the meeting of the leaders of the G20 member countries in Bali, Indonesia.
In an article in the “Daily Telegraph”, which coincides with his arrival at the summit, the British Prime Minister writes that the Russian President does not even attempt to justify his actions, despite the fact that his country “is responsible for so much bloodshed in Ukraine”.
Mr Sunak will use the first plenary meeting of the summit to denounce the invasion of Ukraine as illegal before Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
In his article he states: “We will not allow our economic future to become hostage to the actions of a pariah state, nor the future of our allies.”
He also called the raising of the Ukrainian flag in Kherson a “historic milestone” in the Ukrainian fight to recapture what Russia has taken.
The British leader will also present a proposal for a five-point economic plan for the countries that make up the G20, with a key point being the reduction of dependence on Russian hydrocarbons.
The plan also includes direct government support for the poorest, ending the “weaponisation” of food production and distribution, further opening up global trade and financing developing countries to develop sustainably.
The first meeting of the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom with US President Joe Biden will also take place in Bali.
Mr Sunak will also hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of India, Japan, Australia and Saudi Arabia.
