Explosion hits gas pipeline in St Petersburg, Russia’s 2nd largest city

A huge explosion was seen this Saturday (19) on the outskirts of St. Petersburg, raising a cloud of flames and smoke that was recorded in several videos circulating on social networks.

The fire hit a gas pipeline between Berngardovka and Kovalevo, about 20 km from Russia’s second-largest city, Governor Alexander Drozdenko said.

In a Telegram message, Drozdenko said firefighters and rescuers were trying to control the fire and there was no threat to the area’s population or spread of the flames to residential areas.

There is no information on the causes of the explosion or whether it was an attack or an accident.
