The Ukrainian army’s recapture of the last three villages in the Mykolaiv region that remain in Russian hands would mark a major victory for Kyiv, just days after the Russians withdrew from Kherson. These three communities are located on a ledge of land in the southern tip of Ukraine, on the left bank of the Dnieper. Russia occupied this area during the first days of the war, at the end of February.
