“Three communities on the Kinburn Peninsula remain to be recaptured” to fully liberate the Mykolife region, the region’s governor said earlier
Fierce fighting is ongoing between Ukrainians and Russians in Cape Kinburnin left bank of the Dnieper Riverin southern Ukraine, south of Mykolaiv, local authorities said.
“Three communities on the Kinburn Peninsula remain to be recaptured” to fully liberate the Mykolayiv region, the region’s governor, Vitaly Kim, said earlier.
On Monday, the spokeswoman for the Southern Command of the Ukrainian military, Natalya Khomenyuk, said that “a military operation is underway on the Kinburnska Peninsula.”
“The fighting continues. When there is a result, we will report it,” he assured, without giving more details about the hostilities.
The Ukrainian army’s recapture of the last three villages in the Mykolaiv region that remain in Russian hands would mark a major victory for Kyiv, just days after the Russians withdrew from Kherson. These three communities are located on a ledge of land in the southern tip of Ukraine, on the left bank of the Dnieper. Russia occupied this area during the first days of the war, at the end of February.
