Six people were killed when a gunman opened fire inside a Walmart chain supermarket in Chesapeake, Virginia, city officials said, adding that the gunman also died.

“Chesapeake Police confirm seven victims, including the perpetratorfrom last night’s shooting at the Walmart store,” the city said on Twitter.

So far the police he has not released any details about the perpetratorbut the media reports that this is the store manager. Police spokesman Leo Kosinski said earlier that police do not know if the shooter worked at Walmart.

The police also did not make it clear if the perpetrator shot himself. Police believe the shots were fired inside the store, but said no a body was found outside it. A press conference on the shooting at the Walmart supermarket will be held at 8 a.m. (local time), Chesapeake Township said via Twitter.

Walmart said in a statement it was “shocked” by the incident at its Chesapeake store and was cooperating with police.

A spokesman for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital told local TV station WAVY that five injured people were being treated there.
