“I can’t tell you whether Turkey will do it or not, we are focused on the goal of defeating ISIS,” the Pentagon spokesman said.

Her deep concern of the US for escalating actions in Northern Syria, Iraq and Turkey, expressed in his statements today Tuesday, the representative of the American Pentagon, expressing at the same time the hope that the Turks will not proceed with a ground landing in Syria.

“The mission against ISIS continues. We have reduced the number of our joint patrols. As I mentioned in my statement last week, we remain deeply concerned about the escalating actions in Northern Syria, Iraq and Turkey,” he said and continued:

“We are certainly calling for de-escalation in this region and as you have pointed out, continued conflict and especially a ground landing jeopardizes what we have won in the fight against ISIS and destabilizes the region. As I also mentioned, we recognize Turkey’s legitimate concerns regarding terrorist acts within its border, while continuing to support the Syrian Democratic Army fighting ISIS. We hope that we can maintain our focus on this dangerous and destabilizing terrorist organization called ISIS.”

In addition, he emphasized that there continues to be concern about a possible land landing of the Turks in Syria. “I can’t tell you whether Turkey will do it or not, we are focused on the goal of defeating ISIS. We are in regular communication with our Turkish allies and I can tell you that Secretary Austin will be speaking with his Turkish counterpart in the very near future. We have not withdrawn any of our personnel – we are focusing on the fight against ISIS. We have not withdrawn any of our personnel, we are focusing on the fight against ISIS. I don’t want to say if I have information if there will be a land landing, clearly I hope they won’t,” he concluded.
