“Only yesterday (Tuesday) we had 131 fires in Ukraine, of which 106 were in private homes. Nine people were killed and eight injured,” the agency said in a Facebook post.

Nine people were killed yesterday, Tuesday, in Ukraine by house fires caused from candles, generators and gas stoves twhich Ukrainians are using to keep warm, due to power outages, the emergency response service announced today.

Since October, Russia has massively bombed Ukrainian energy infrastructure, causing severe damage and power outages affecting millions of Ukrainians every day.

“Only yesterday (Tuesday) we had 131 fires in Ukraine, of which 106 in private homes. Nine people were killed and eight injured,” the agency said in a Facebook post.

The rescuers noted that the most frequent causes of fires and explosions are “burning candles”, “(liquefied gas) bottles in apartments” and “electric generators on balconies”.

Ukrainians are forced to resort to these means to have light or to warm themselves during the hours when the electricity in their homes is cut.

Earlier today, from Bucharest, Romania, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stressed the need to quickly restore his country’s energy infrastructure and called on Kiev’s allies to provide the necessary equipment, transformers and generators.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called the Russian strikes on political infrastructure in Ukraine “barbaric”.
