The president of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro hailed today as a “step in the right direction” the US government’s permission for energy giant Chevron to expand its operations in Venezuela despite US sanctions, but called for their complete lifting.
“Venezuela demands the complete lifting of sanctions on the oil industry,” President Maduro said at a press conference, stressing that the measures of USA inconsistent with the rules governing international trade.
Last week, the US Treasury authorized the US company Chevron to boost oil production and expand its operations in Venezuela, thus applauding the agreement between President Maduro’s government and the opposition to finance programs that will meet social needs.
